The East Bay Hills Fire

By Hedrick Lepsch

The Oakland Firestorm in 1991 was devastating to many people in California. What started as a small brush fire turned into a blaze that was traumatic to the area and the people that were touched by the fire.

The aftermath of hurricanes means more construction projects than ever before. It is important with all of the renovation to choose a good general contractor if you are in Florida, Texas, or any of the other key hurricane states.

Florida is surrounded, on three sides, by warm water. Usually, at least one tropical storm or hurricane threatens some portion of the state. When the water develops a counter-clockwise flow it is deemed to have cyclonic circulation. This circulation develops at sea level and when it comes with thunderstorms it is deemed a Tropical Depression.

For instance, green lumber comes from sustainably managed sites, where trees are harvested with care and are replaced with new trees once they are removed. "Green materials" is also used to refer to materials that are highly effective in helping the building waste less energy. Certain insulators have this designation because they help retain heat, lessening the amount of energy that is needed to keep the building warm during the cold months.

For the majority of residents, flooding is going to be the biggest concern that is associated with a hurricane. When a storm is moving slowly, the relentless rain can cause major problems.

Within an hour of reigniting the fire had jumped across freeways and overwhelmed the local firefighting and regional firefighting resources. Rebuilding those homes that were destroyed by the fire took a lot of time. The Oakland Firestorm of '91 was devastating and heart breaking for the community and all those that were affected by the fire.

While we look back on this incident and see the destruction it is also important to look at the work that was done after words in order to get the East Bay Hills back in the mix of things. Homes were rebuilt and many commercial buildings were constructed by general contractors who had won out on their bids.

As the storm approaches the wind will continue to pick up and the rain will start to fall harder. When the rain and the wind subside, you will find yourself in the eye of the storm. The relinquishing of the storm will not last for long as the other side of the storm begins to pass over the area.

After all is said and done emergency personnel will start rescue and rebuilding efforts. That being said, choosing a good general contract is one thing that you should worry about when you try and get your business or other things back up and running. Working and listening to local government throughout this time will ensure that you are able to keep yourself safe throughout the hurricane.
