Birth and death certificates, marriage and divorce licenses as well as criminal records are part of the Minnesota Public Records. These documents are considered as open files which the residents of Minnesota can request whenever it is needed.

These public documents are used separately and serve a unique purpose. Records of birth, death, marriage and divorce are used as reference when conducting genealogy research. Records of birth, death, marriage and divorce are available at the office of the Vital Statistics in the Department of Health. Only documents which have been registered since 1900 are available in the state office. One can also get the documents from the county where the event was registered. One has to prepare to pay for the processing fee to proceed with the request. It is also important to prepare the basic information of the document being requested to make the retrieval easier.

The Public Safety Department of Minnesota is where the criminal records of the state are archived. The retrieval would also cost a certain fee but that would depend on the type of document requested as well as the method used to obtain it. A fingerprint scan can be done but that would cost a little higher than the usual search. The requesting individual should also provide the basic details of the requested file along with their personal information. Once all of the requirements and guidelines are followed, the retrieval process can be easier.

Retrieval of government public records is now made easy with the help of the Internet. This is preferred by many of the residents in Minnesota since it is faster and convenient. With this, there is no need to worry if you are not sure where to go in order to get a particular document since it can be obtained even without leaving home.
