Social Media Marketing: Talk With Customers, Not At Them

By Stavros Georgiadis

Promoting a business or website is challenging and takes some savvy. This is where social media marketing can really pay off in a big, big way. Following are some great techniques to use on social media sites to promote your business.

Put a "retweet" button on every blog post at the top. You will get people to post your blog using Twitter by placing this button there. It will allow you to reach more people, more often.

Invite all your friends and acquaintances to visit your social media sites. Whether they're loyal customers, potential customers or have no chance at all of ever buying from you, it's a good idea to have a large network. The reasoning here is that your page is going to be advertised on their profile as long as they're in your network.

Utilize both social media strategies and an email campaign. To do this, consider including social media widgets the end of your email. You may also be able to get more subscribers to your newsletter if you have a link that goes to more information about it.

Use tags when you are posting on Twitter. Tags show up after the "#" symbol. This will allow any updates you have to show up in feeds of people that have subscribed to particular groups. Find tags that would be followed by potential customers and people who would be interested in your industry.

When doing social media marketing, it's critical that all your ads are in a visible spot. Even the finest ad will have little effect if it winds up in a position that visitors tend to ignore. Make sure your ads are placed for maximum impact.

You can now link all your blog posts to LinkedIn. Any article you post will appear updated on LinkedIn. This will allow you to save time and get you tons of exposure by tapping into your LinkedIn acquaintances and the blogging community.

Do your best to communicate with people on a personal level. The customer does not want to speak to a large company. Customers want to know they aren't just an anonymous number. When they know they are dealing with just one person, it makes them more interested in doing business with you.

The information you've just read will help to drive your social media strategy. The more comfortable you become with the idea, the better prepared you will be to take your social media marketing to the top. If you understand the potential of this medium, you will be able to attract site visitors and make many more sales.
