Selling Strange News Articles To Newspapers

By Mallory Goodwin

Selling anyone's strange news articles does not need to be as hard as one would think. Generally speaking there are around 2300 daily and weekly newspapers printed inside the United States. There are also around half as many monthly magazines published as well. Again, this only accounts for the United States.

Most small newspapers across the country are published weekly in small communities. Within these small communities there is generally very little competition from the larger daily newspapers which are printed in the nearby big cities. Their basic bread and butter is through local ad advertising. Their ad rates are typically below average rates larger print papers sell, which brings up some other points.

Because they have smaller budgets they also have a generally smaller staff. This staff is typically composed up of 2 or 3 people doing every job. This means taking pictures, writing articles, selling advertising and distributing the paper around the community.

Small papers have limited budgets, this does not prevent you from making money with them. With their limited budgets you can anticipate selling an article for around 10 dollars to them. You may than turn keep selling this same article to 100 other small papers. Using this method can really add the dollars up.

By maintaining the rights to any article you write, you have the rights to resell it again several months later is you want to. By rewriting it a some months later you could again resell it. By keeping a positive well written story current there could be a potentially unlimited revenue stream. This strategy may be applied effectively to many magazines as well.

It is often impractical to try and submit stories only one paper at any time. Using the power of the Internet it becomes your best friend and business partner. By simply researching small papers often you can compile a working list of 100 or more editors. Often their email addresses can be found in the editorial section of the paper.

It is vital to remember when you send any submissions to an editor that you sent it separately so nobody can see if anyone else has been sent the same thing. This however does not mean you must send 100 emails. Thankfully, one can use the BC setting with their when sending. This actually means blind copy and when using it only the name of the individual receiving the email will see their name.

Usually for every 10 to 15 mails you sent out it can be expected to receive 1 positive response back. This method is about quantity and 10 responses out of 100 is a success. The true idea is to keep working at it. There is always some demand somewhere for strange experiences, ideas and knowledge other individuals do not possess.

Selling some strange news articles can be that simple. Keep in mind that the papers you are emailing will have limited money and set the price for your stories knowing this. Try building up a reader base because most editors are more apt to buy from a person they already know. It often takes time, and real effort, but it will work so do not give up.
