A Crash Course On What Digital Content Delivery Is

By Casandra Newton

The World Wide Web has made unlimited storage of media files possible. Due to the lack of physical media formats, content is shared at a fast rate while the old media formats are considered irrelevant. Because it entails convenience, digital content delivery is becoming the preferred format in sharing media. This opens the market to more players which can trigger commodity prices to go down.

By not using the media formats that consumers have been accustomed to, there is a bigger chance of getting attention and making profit easily. Anyone can own the files by searching for them at streaming or download websites. Aside from the newly produced content, movies or songs that came before the Internet are converted to digital format and are shared online.

Because of this delivery, the production of trial versions or previews has been made possible. As a form of digital marketing, the producers entice their customers about their products which are coming soon. This strategy is often used in the gaming industry wherein they allow players to download a portion of the entire game for free before the full game file is allowed for download. Since the bandwidth of online distributors caters to massive traffic counts, multiple users can retrieve the file without delay.

Media sharing online also gave rise to peer-to-peer file sharing wherein media files are shared from one computer to the other. This type of file sharing also allows a user to acquire media files for free without sacrificing its quality. To some extent, digital delivery is like a content management system that is often used in blogging and quick-build websites.

Since content can be distributed, directly distribution companies and publishers can be eliminated. In the old days, these companies work to distribute and sell the products in retail stores. As a return of favor, they have the legal right to a slice of the revenue. Now, a developer can showcase his work in an online store, dictate his own price and rake in most of the income.

Online distribution also gives confidence to budding executives who desire to make fresh yet risky media titles. Due to the limited space in their stores, managers only sold products that will definitely sell. Since producers take cue from their consumers, they are provoked to create along the proven methods that sell. Online distribution platforms enable executives to create innovative offerings without sharing profit with others.

Delivering digital media files over the Internet has downsides too. One of which is widespread piracy that takes away a lot from the royalty of an artist because his work is distributed for free and without permission. It can be a ticket to becoming popular but he cannot earn the rightful money for what he worked for. Upon saving it to a computer, anyone can share the material to those who seek for it.

Even though there are negative implications, artists are still in favor of digital delivery because it gives them more control over their output. From conceptualization to production, they can call the shots without thinking about possible issues and lawsuits when it comes to ownership. It also gives producers the power to dictate a fair price for their work.
