California Criminal Records

By Ben Kingsley

Fresno arrest records are basically those records that contain all the arrests made by Fresno police officers of a person, group or entity. Arrest records usually comprise of detailed information about the crime including the names of the suspect, type of crime committed, place and time. These records vary from mild to serious cases, examples of which include minor traffic altercations, DUI, to incidents of robbery and even murder.

For arrest record requests, a person requesting the report must show a valid identification to Fresno Record Division and indicate the case number of the arrest record(s) that they want. Arrest records access is restricted especially those that are under investigation, have a juvenile as suspect and are restricted by court order. For other arrest records that do not fall under those conditions, access is open. In case the person requesting the report is one of the arrested parties, a copy of the report will be forwarded to their attorney during the arraignment. Reports can be sent either by mail or through walk in.

For those who want to search the records themselves, they can do so by visiting the Record Bureau Public Counter during business hours. As there is a cut off time, one should come early and bring a form of identification with them. The costs for the records were amended recently and effective August 1, 2013, each page would cost $.20 and certification fee costs about $25. The fee amendment will not affect civil cases or lawsuits. The Office will not accept cash or personal checks but does accept money order, US bank issued checks and credit card payments.

For mail requests, the Office requires a written request stating the name of the person requesting the information, case/file number, incident type and time or location if applicable. For reports that are longer than 10 pages, the office charges $.20/page. The person requesting should also include a copy of their identification id such as valid driver's license and send the request to the Record's Office. For personal criminal records, the person requesting must personally appear before the Records Bureau and get their criminal record. Cost of the service is $30 and can be paid through credit card or money order.

For those who want access to arrest records, they can also go to Fresno County Sheriff's Office. The Records division is open during weekdays for walk-ins. The office also accepts mail requests. For those requesting the record, they should also include a copy of their valid id. Requests can be sent either through courier or standard mail. Processing for requests can take up to 10 business days. To ensure that the file that one wants to access is not restricted, consider calling the records division first.

For those who only require basic search, they can do free criminal records check online. It is by far one of the most convenient ways of retrieving information without having to pay for the records. Some sites might require payment though most of the time, online search databases are free.
