Try to Avoid These Three SEO Blunders

By Roberto Beasley

There are certain things that you need to know about SEO that can save your ranking. If you are serious about getting tons of free targeted traffic to your site then you have to learn at least basic SEO. As an internet marketer, you must seriously consider getting high rankings so people can find your site when they do their searches. In fact, some marketers have become very wealthy by focusing on SEO as their main way of getting traffic to their landing pages. With the knowledge that you will get more traffic the higher you rank on the first page should be enough of a reason to learn SEO. One of the best ways to succeed with SEO is to learn what not to do. For some reason, many internet marketers believe that SEO is a bag of tricks that is updated every month, in fact, it is the opposite.

Images can greatly enhance the look and feel of your site, but too many can actually damage it. Too many images and graphics means you're leaving less room for the search engine friendly content, which can reduce your overall search engine rankings. The text that appears on images is not like the plain text you have on your pages. Search engines can't read text shown on images, which means you won't be benefiting with your SEO efforts at all. If you do decide to use some images, keep in mind that putting your site's keywords in the image's ALT tag can help you. Search engines are able to read your ALT attributes, so having your keywords in there can assist your ranking in the long run.

You should never just take content from other sites, as that's not right. If you try to take content that's not yours in the hopes that it will assist you with reaching your goals, you're mistaken. It may appear as though there are no repercussions at first, but it will hurt you once someone discovers that you've stolen your content. The largest downfall is that the search engines have figured out how to get around this, and they can recognize content that's been duplicated. There's a filter that's saved for duplicated content and if your website gets trapped in there, it won't do a thing for your site's ranking. Therefore, put in the effort to create unique content that's not only appealing to the visitors but also to the search engines.

Many people either forget or don't know that there content must be formatted in such a way for the search engines to find it relevant. Webmasters put in the effort to create a masterpiece out of their site but in this process they forget to add relevant content to their site. Having bad content on your site is a sure shot recipe towards failure when it comes to SEO. Try not to add any individual posts to your site that are less than 300-400 words and your keywords should number between 3-5 inside every 100 words of content. Also, include your keyword once in the post's title. The search engines frown upon too many keywords appearing in your content and will decrease your ranking.

Just stay away from too much flashiness on your page and use ALT tags on your images whenever you can. If you can avoid committing the above blunders, you will avoid a ban and will get indexed higher than ever with the search engines.
