Reasons For Choosing Custom Leather Products

By Tracie Knight

In a world where mass production is the norm and most items are disposable, people are increasingly looking for quality, long lasting items. Custom leather products are more widely available since the advent of internet shopping and it is possible to find them at many online stores. A huge range of items are on offer, from holsters and saddles to fashion items like jackets and shoes.

In a society where cheaply made, disposable items are readily available, these items are made like they used to be, one at a time, to last a lifetime. Varying degrees of customization are offered by suppliers. The amount of customization varies considerably from store to store. For example, a shoe store may offer only four styles of shoes, but allow customers to choose the height of the heel, the lining, the sole and the type of toe cap to create thousands of different combinations. Some companies offer the opportunity to completely customize from selecting of the type of material to the color and style.

The price tag on such products is obviously higher than on mass made items. You are paying for individuality and the amount of time spent on the item. Most people do not mind paying a higher price for a one-of-a-kind item that they know is unique and will last for many years because of its quality. Today, such items are offered at more reasonable prices than in the past for many reasons, such as progresses in technology.

True craftsmanship and high quality rawhide together produce some of the finest merchandise in the world. Leather is a wonderful material to work with that enables a variety of design options, yet still maintains a classical look. Each type produces a different look and is suitable for different purposes, whether it is making furniture or shoes.

There are four basic types of leather. Full grain is the highest quality, strong, long-lasting and develops a patina over time. Top grain is also fine quality but it is usually sanded to remove imperfections before use and does not develop a patina. Corrected grain is treated to fill in wrinkles in the hide to make it smoother. Bonding leftover organic leathers together with polyurethane binders creates a bonded product that is not long lasting but relatively inexpensive.

When looking for such merchandise one has to be aware of imitations. Even products that claim to be completely hand made using the finest quality materials sometimes consist of partially made components sourced cheaply and put together. This is why it is vital to select a reliable company with the necessary experience, service and dependability.

These items make wonderful gifts as well as promotional materials for businesses. Many suppliers have no problem with adding a logo to an item. A key chain branded with a business logo or an embossed luggage tag make affordable promotional tools.

Ordering uniquely made items was traditionally an option only for the wealthy. However, customers of all ages are now shopping online for these items. Items like jackets, shoes, furniture and many others are available and the options are available to add a personal touch without too much extra expense.
