Choosing The Right Evaporative Air Cooler For Your Needs

By Alex D White

A portable evaporative air cooler otherwise also known as swamp cooler is one of the most cost effective cooling unit that you can use. Not only the evaporative cooler is easier to buy, but it also ensures that you spent a minimum amount as a cost of fuel and energy to run the portable air cooler as compared to the air conditioner. Moreover, the mechanism with which an evaporative air cooler works is very simple as compared to the traditional air conditioner, thus there is a very less need for maintenance and service, which reduces the overall cost.

Knowing more about the evaporative cooler, it works on the basis of endothermic reaction. The endothermic reaction is a simple process where the energy is absorbed in the form of heat. IN the evaporative air cooler, the air passes through the wet pads, wicks absorbed with water. As the air passes through the pads, the water in the pads evaporates and this causes the heat in the air to be absorbed and converted to cool environment.

There are a lot of homeowners that prefer to have the evaporative air cooler as a money saving option to get rid of the heat in the hot months. The evaporative air cooler can be installed in the windows or walls or roof of the homes. An advantage of air cooler is that they are cost efficient as they need low maintenance and thus it saves the homeowners one third of the energy cost.

You may often come against air coolers that have controllers for maintaining the water level in the cooler tank. The fact about the evaporative cooler is they are portable, thus they cannot be connected with a permanent water supply for water level maintenance.

You also have the option of using the commercial air coolers in large areas like warehouse and big motors, as they are very effective and energy saving method of cooling. Commercial air coolers can effectively be used to cool the garages, warehouses and large houses comfortably.

An important factor for the evaporative air cooler is that the air being cooled need not be captured, like the conventional air conditioner. Also, it becomes important for the area to have proper ventilation as the humid air produced from the cooler should be replaced with the drier air.

Evaporative air cooler, needs water as a continuous supply, hence you must always consider the tank size of the cooler. When the climate is very humid the water consumption rate is higher and thus it is advised to have a water tank of at least 8 litres. The modern day air comes with varying features, such as ionizer or ice packs.

Do remember that additional features cost you extra, however even though the features add up to the cost of the evaporative cooler, it cost of buying the portable cooler is still less than an conventional air conditioner. Moreover the maintenance and energy charges are also low.
