Alpaca, Moe Than Just A Tame Animal

By Barbara Baker

Tennessee is a beautiful state that tourist go to, especially those who are music enthusiasts. The place is filled with warm people who are clad in cowboy boots and hats, with good old country songs you can hear everywhere in Music City. Yes, that is what Nashville is also called, for obvious reasons.

More than however, it is also great for its outdoors and animals in farmlands. Speaking of which, for many years, people there have bred alpaca Nashville because they are tamed and domesticated. These beasts have grazed the high Andes Mountains of South America, for about three million years. Yet they have established a certain kind of popularity that is unmatched by any other animal, when it comes to the clothing industry.

Alpacas which are found in the Andes mountains of Peru in South America, are not wild. Breeders in the country know their history enough to say that they have migrated from North of the continent, to the south, three million years ago. They have a history that goes as far back as six thousand years ago when they evolved and developed.

They have a habit of spitting when mistreated or distressed. When in hunger or competing for food, even as hard, they spit at each other. Alpacas like to be dominant sometimes, so they establish by doing that too. They do not do this to people, except when they are being mistreated on the field.

The alpaca type is more valuable. The former is bred to be animals that are considered for burden while the latter is for production of cloth. To this day, since they were domesticated and farmlands all over Nashville fed them, the fleece of these animals became in demand in the fashion industry.

Herding them also paved the way to the success of trade in textiles, since they are highly in demand. Although there have been distinctions in the types of cloth that followed suit, after it has become popular, the alpaca still remains to be a favorite. Made of the best quality, the rest of the world loves them too.

They are not hard to take care of. Then again, to breed them takes a great deal of responsibility, especially when the herd grows. They are not to be abused in the fields or mountains to serve as guard to a flock of sheep, just because they have an aggression to wolves. That is an advantage that cannot be used for selfish reasons.

There are just times that their reaction towards wolves, coyotes and the like, is abused. People would tend to let them stand guard for a whole herd of sheep which is not fair. They are not big dogs or shepherds. They should be taken care of, since these beasts bring money to the house. If not, then you are not a good master or breeder.

Especially, since these days, the trade industry have highly benefited from its production too. Since the day they were domesticated, the alpaca has paved way to wealth for its owners from where they have come from. That is why in breeding them, one has to be careful and pay attention to their genetical order.
