By Jocelyn Davidson

Today our society is flooded with information on illnesses that have no cure. Wanting to help out and find a cure can be a noble attitude, but often is not enough to change anything. By joining a group that wants to fight for a common cause can bring much more attention to the issue. Supporting that cause with merchandise that leaves a lasting impression can provide a lot more support because people remember the issue. Purchasing breast cancer baseball caps to remind people of those who are suffering will bring more attention to the issue at hand and often more money to help find the cure.

Finding where one stands in the middle of this starts with knowing your own family history. Doing a bit of research to find out if any family members have had this disease will better prepare you for protecting yourself and seeking preventative health care before there is any problem.

Keeping healthy and following the protocol of medical professionals is the first step in fighting any kind of disease. Should changes occur, it can be detected much quicker and early intervention can then take place. This is often the difference between living through a treatable illness and passing away from it.

In recent years, there have been more people who have made a stand and brought needed attention to this disease. Awareness is the key and understanding the importance of preventative care has been credited with the survival of so many. Finding a cure is not cheap but many people have volunteered their time and effort in order to raise money to help with funding more research.

It is important for us all to know that this is not just a woman's disease. Many men have faced their own mortality and often seek help later then women. This is largely due to the lack of education and awareness that men are also at risk.

The support that many of these patients have found through fund raising and awareness has given them the strength and hope to carry on and continue fighting for their health. Knowing that there are people who care and are willing to work at raising awareness provides the needed support and hope to those who are going through treatment. Supporting and fighting for a cure also educates the general public and attracts funding in areas that are needed.

Most likely, everyone knows someone who has dealt with this illness. Whether it is their mother, sister, wife, daughter or friend, most everyone knows someone who has fought, or is fighting this devastating disease. This is something that can affect anyone, therefore, it should be something that all of us have a stake in.

There are many ways to support important causes. Some choose to donate their time while others donate their money. Purchasing any merchandise that brings the disease to the forefront, allows people to see it for what it is. Participating in activities that raise money for this cause is a great way of supporting financially as well as emotionally and bringing attention to the illness itself. For those who are suffering and receiving treatment, this can be the very thing that keeps them going and gives them the strength to carry on.
