Whistleblowers Against Fraud: What Does The False Claims Act Entail?

By Paula Hess

When it comes to fraud, it should be noted that there are methods set in place to protect individuals. These are needed in order to ensure that everyone is given a sense of fairness, regardless of how much he or she knows about the law itself. One of the many points to talk about, in my view, has got to be the False Claims Act. It is one of the most important and I am of the opinion that it is one which Whistleblowers Against Fraud can bring to anyone's attention.

When it comes to fraud, it goes without saying that the False Claims Act has a tremendous amount of importance to it. To put it into simplest terms, the act in question was designed in order to hold parties, involved in fraud, liable for their actions. There are a number of instances where this act has come into effect, including but not limited to medical situations. If you are curious as to when exactly the False Claims Act came into being, that is another topic deserving of expansion.

Abraham Lincoln made it a point to sponsor the False Claims Act, back in 1863, during his presidency. This was done mostly in response to the actions that were undertaken by government contractors, many of them closely related to the fraud that was occurring during that time. As an aside, did you know that the False Claims Act has also been given the name of, "Lincoln's Law?" Seeing as how he was rather influential on the matter, during this time, it's easy to see why this moniker was given and why Whistleblowers Against Fraud has focused on it.

The False Claims Act has been put to use by authorities such as W.A.F. and it's clear as to why. If you'd like to know, with the act in question set in place, Whistleblowers Against Fraud has actually been able to grant rewards which fall anywhere between 15 and 30% of the government's recovery. As you can see, this particular law has been able to prove itself after so many decades. However, only with the proper level of knowledge will you be able to see what exactly this law entails.

Hopefully you will be encouraged to conduct further research on the matter because the False Claims Act is quite interesting. It shows that there are solutions that can be undertaken in order to help those who have encountered fraud, regardless of the amount of scope associated with it. There are different techniques needed and those who go about investigation, with this act in mind, must possess a clear mindset. To say that the False Claims Act is important, as it relates to the bigger picture of fraud, would be an understatement.
