Following Tsa Rules Is A Travel Requirement

By Donald Green

Flying today is complicated. It seems that you have to get to the airport earlier and earlier in order to make your plane. Waiting areas are usually crowded and check in lines are long. Going through security can be a headache when people don't follow the Transportation Security Administration, tsa rules the way they are supposed to. Everyone wants to feel as safe as possible when they fly, and these regulations have been put in place to help ensure that.

Before you follow them though, you have to know what they are. People who fly all the time are familiar with what is and what is not allowed to be taken with them when they board an aircraft. Most things should be self-explanatory. There are certain items that most reasonable people will know are forbidden. Others may not be as clear. First of all, everyone should expect to have at least one form of identification with them when they get to the airport.

For a number of years now, passengers have been required to remove their shoes and put them in the plastic bins to be screened. It just makes sense to wear shoes that come off easily and quickly. Nobody wants to be behind someone who has to sit on the floor to get complicated footwear off.

You can carry on items of personal hygiene such as shampoo, deodorant, perfume, lotion, and hand sanitizer, but the tsa limits the size of the containers. Some people buy empty containers so that they can fill them with specific brands. It is really easier though to purchase small, pre-filled bottles of shampoo, deodorant, and other items. They are readily available at most pharmacies, supermarkets, and the big chain stores.

Any medication you need can be taken with you when you board the plane. Placing them in a plastic bag may expedite the process, but that is not required. Frequent fliers will tell you that you should keep medicine with you and not packed in checked baggage. The x-ray machines currently in use by airport security should not affect your medications in any way. If you have concerns though, it is permissible to ask a security guard to check the items instead of scanning them.

Most people know that smoking is not permitted on an airplane, but some have questions about e cigarettes. There is no problem packing them in checked luggage, but whether or not you will be allowed to use one during a flight is something you need to talk to the airline about.

Every year we see news reports about the ridiculous things people try to sneak on board their flights. Some routinely attempt to get guns, knives, swords, box cutters, and other items that are clearly prohibited, into the passenger area of the plane. If individuals are caught, they can face stiff penalties and even jail time. Hunting rifles and other sports gear are permitted in the baggage section of the plane, but there are stringent rules that apply.

Everyone wants to get where they are going as safely and as quickly as possible. You can do your part by following the rules and regulations that the TSA enforces.
