Dos And Donts When Using A Menstrual Cup

By Susan Reynolds

Women are looking for healthy, sanitary and convenient ways to deal with their monthly menses. The use of a menstrual cup is considered a revolution. It has, however, presented several challenges to women especially on how to use and handle it. Proper use allows a woman to be confident and avoid mishap that could be gross and embarrassing. Follow the following tips to have an easy and rewarding experience.

Read instruction carefully. Each manufacturer provides a brochure on how to use the cups effectively. The instructions include demonstration on how to insert, manage and remove. You will also get signs of danger, activities you can engage, procedure for removing, emptying, etc. Read through the instructions and do not assume that it is obvious.

Hygiene is very important since the cups go into a very sensitive area. Clean your hands thorough to get rid of any dirt under your nails. Any contaminants that will be on your fingers and nails will be pushed in as well. This may lead to unimaginable health complications. Ensure that your hands are rinsed with clean and warm water. The water should be non-perfumed. Fold it in a way that it fits into your virginal canal.

Find a hygienic and tidy way to dispose the collected fluid. Some will empty it more times in a day than others. It may depend on size of your chalice and the quantity of flow you are experiencing. Some may go an entire day without emptying. You should be on the lookout for any leakage. Decide whether to use it in the garden, for art, etc. Whichever way, make it hygienic and safe.

Hands usually get bloody when removing the chalice. Some consider this as gross. It gets worse when the blood spills on the floor. The chalice is tender and overly flexible. In case you feel that such an experience is gross, this might not be the best method for you. These are encounters that you have to deal with if you choose the chalice.

Some people experience a challenge when peeing or going for the long call. Unlike tampons that have long strings attached, you have to handle it with your hands. The problem is having to remove and return it often. Should you feel comfortable using the toilet while it is still in, there is no harm in doing so. Let the chalice remain as you use the bathroom. This reduces the chances of contamination.

Expect virginal infections from time to time. It is obvious that this is a foreign body inserted in your vagina. It may introduce bacteria that escalate into an infection. If you follow the instructions of use, you will have a smooth experience when using cups. Ensure that your hands are rinsed and dry to avoid altering the PH. This is what causes infections.

Using the cup while under IUD may be problematic. The hanging thread might be misplaced in the process, exposing you to unplanned pregnancy. Since this report is not conclusive, inform your gynecologist that you are on IUD. It is also safe to have sex while it is still on. It will depend on the comfort of your partner who might not like a cluttered tiny space.
