By George Dodson

If you haven't had a job yet, you should understand that a workplace is practically your second home. Some spend a lot more time at work because they quite don't have any other choice. If you're spending a lot of time at work then you'll have greater chances of being stressed instead of course if you have stress relievers at work such as friends. Certainly, you don?t need friends in the office if you work individually however having to do so also provide a ton of benefits.

Having friends in the office or on your workplace provides you with a helping hand in case you got piled up with paper work or too much work. Furthermore, friends at work can give you healthy criticisms that can further enhance your skills and can help you achieve your goals. Friends in the office can also come in handy should you be in emotional. Lastly, friends in the office as well as on other places can inspire you to do more and to be more.

The question remains however - what is the best way to make friends within your place of work? Listed below are the things you need to bear in mind to effectively make friends from people at your work place.

The first impression is the key

Among the best and simplest way to get to know other people and at the same time make them remember you. The moment you are introduced to a new colleague, be sure to give a great good impression. As soon as you give that good first impression, you'll be drawing people's attention over to you thus making them want to know more and be with you.

As you are introduced to every co-worker, be sure to remember their names or if not their positions in the workplace. You can use this advantage when trying to approach them in the future.

Join lunch groups

As workers go to their lunch breaks in groups, you can join in and try to make friends with them. As soon as you get an opportunity to go with a lunch group do not hesitate as these opportunities will not come very often. Lunch breaks are also the only hours at work where people can discuss on any topic freely and express or do pretty much anything they want. With this, you can get to know people along with the things you have in common such as hobbies, likes, work routines, and many more.

Open mindedness

Not all people at work will like your or will be comfortable with talking or being friends with you. Thus, you will need to understand that and be open-minded about it. Instead of doing the negative thing like staying away from that person, try to find out what he or she dislikes about you and learn to eliminate, lessen or control it. Open mindedness not only lets you think of ways on how to counter problems but can also show your leadership skills.

Don't rush making friends

Time is also essential in making friends. A real friend is not someone you can find within a day. However, it also shouldn't take a year before you can have a friend at your work place. Do not rush it as friendships only happen naturally - just enjoy and stay true to yourself.
