Discovering Australia Institute Of Commerce And Technology Virtual Campus

By Enid Hinton

While there are a number of colleges and universities all over the world, one of the best and most creative is in Australia. The Australia Institute of Commerce and Technology virtual campus is ahead of its time by not only offering long distance courses but an entire online campus experience. Whether attending the school, and doing some classes online, or taking a full load through the virtual website, there are many opportunities for study in a number of different disciplines.

Most often any college or university which offers the opportunity for virtual work, is going to offer a number of options when it comes to completing this type course. For example, students often have the opportunity to take a class for credit-non-credit, pass or fail. There are also programs in which students can take virtual classes to obtain an honor code, or verified certificate.

While individuals often have to be accepted to colleges, technical schools and universities, those obtaining certificates through edX and other similar websites only have to register online. The free aspect of these courses, other than a minimal donation for a verified versus an honor code certificate cost nothing compared to a four year degree which can now run over a hundred thousand dollars, depending on which school one plans on attending.

For most long distance courses, a student must successfully complete 75% or more of the work to pass the course. Completing any and all coursework along with any tests presented during the term is essential in obtaining a certificate. Most other websites which offer courses whether for credit, or a certificate generally follow this same rule.

While individuals can obtain certificates through these alternative forms of education, it should be noted that most are on a non-credit, pass fail basis. Classes offered through edX and other similar sites often do not. An individual may find an institution which offers online classes for both credit and noncredit though whether or not classes will transfer often depend on a number of factors. As such, before taking any long distance learning class towards a degree, it is important to discuss doing so with a counselor.

One of the best things about auditing classes, whether through a traditional school, or organization, is that one can complete the work at one's own pace. Once a course is complete on edX, new students can still Audit by working through the material, while past students often use the website for reference materials. Unfortunately, no certificates can be acquired by completing an archived course.

Other ways to take classes over the internet, the new and popular free classes through edx dot org. The organization is now offering free classes and certificates from a number of colleges, technical schools and universities around the world. To register, simply visit the edX website and click on courses at the top of the page to peruse the offerings from each school.

Traditional universities most often offer an Associates, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. As to whether online courses will qualify for a specific degree plan, the student needs to set up a time to talk with the department head of the subject.

Whether attending classes at a local university, or completing work through an online program, it is important to understand which classes provide transferable credit. For students working towards a degree, this is not only necessary but essential. As such, meeting with a counselor at the beginning of any educational pathway is often a good idea.
