Police generated reports, tickets issued by the highway patrol as well as reports on drugs and use of narcotics is what CA criminal records are comprised of. All of these documents would contain information on what the reported individual has violated or committed.

If a resident of California has violated the laws of the state or nation, that individual would have a criminal record issued to him in the form of the reports mentioned earlier. This report would have details of what the person has violated. Criminal records in California would show where and when the crime took place. One would also know information about how the person was placed under custody. The name of the official who reported the incident is also indicated on the file. The document is not complete without the personal details of the person involved such as the complete name and the birth details. In some reports, a mug shot is even available for public access.

Criminal records are not only used by investigators and authorities when they are investigating a criminal case. Even ordinary residents of the state would look into the criminal records of other individuals. They do this to determine the identity of the people that they interact with regularly. This helps them to feel safe and secured around people in their neighborhood or workplace. Employers are also one of the people who look into the criminal records of California. By looking into the criminal history of the people that works for them, they would be able to know the background of their people preventing any issues that may occur in the future.

Sadly, making criminal records available for public access poses a huge problem for those who had previous criminal history. Many have experienced discrimination in where they work. Some felt that they are treated unfairly because they are usually the last to be promoted or hired. This can be avoided if the individual would request to expunge or seal their records. This means that the public will not see his criminal records.

The state of California allows its residents to request for a copy of their personal criminal records. Those who need to request for a copy of other people's file would have to secure a special court order. One has to provide a request form with the information about the document being retrieved. It is also important to indicate one's personal details on the request form in order to proceed with the search. The office of the Department of Public Safety in California is where one can request for such document. The search can be done by personally going to the said office. A mail request can also be sent but this method may take days before the document can be obtained.

The development of the Internet has opened a lot of opportunities for in the IT industry. The government has even utilized it to deliver information to the public. Request for criminal records free to public access is even possible through the Internet. This makes the retrieval faster and convenient.
