How You Begin Your Very Own Farmer Stand

By George Dodson

When you are driving your car, have you noticed a small stand sitting at the side of the road? More often than not, you will find someone selling vegetables and fruits on this stands.

These farmer stands help greatly in small communities. As soon as the produce ripen or it becomes ready for the picking, it is immediately being sold. It then should be sold or consumed as early as possible to avoid spoilage. It is for this sole reason that farmers make an effort to build a farmer stand to get rid of their fresh produce while earning income. The fruits or vegetables always taste much better here. More often than not, these fruits do not use pesticides as well as other chemicals.

How can you set up your very own farmer stand if you are growing your own crops?

The first thing you want to consider is location. Do you want to have your stand set up beside other competition? If you choose to establish your stand at the local market you will need to pay a small fee for the location. Furthermore, if you choose to sell at the local market you'll be working with a lot of competition. You might consider placing it at the end of the driveway. Travelers can easily notice your sign of your stand. As long as you got plenty of parking space, they'll stop and check out what you've got to sell.

What are the goods that are usually sold fast? What are the produce commonly bought by travelers? The answer is probably that they go by such things as tomatoes, corn, jalapenos, and fruits such as apples, oranges, and cantaloupe or other types of melons. You will be looking at a good opportunity to profit if you decide this selection.

What would be the best time to put up your farm stand? What day in the week or what week in the month would be the ideal time to establish a farm stand? Is it in the evening or the morning? Conducting a test would probably best in this situation. You can simply ask competitions for tips or advise. If not, you can simply browse the net about this topic. There are tons of farm stand owners in the world who are more than willing to share information about this topic.

What would be the price for your goods? If possible, try to keep your prices at a minimum for you to be able to sell your goods. A good example is selling a produce good for as cheap as half or a quarter of a dollar. You can also sell by the box or carton depending on the produce your advertising.

Most of the best advice is that you should start small with a few items and test to see which ones sell the best. You will then be able to come up with a suitable list of fruits and vegetables that people would love to buy. With this, you won't have to spend much and you'll be sure to provide for your clients.
