The Lab Specimen Collection Guidelines

By Amanda Baird

In every kind of laboratory tests, every people are trained in the best way that they can be. This is because they play an integral part in the testing the urine sample of different patients. It will determine if a person is currently sick or not. It will also determine if the condition is worse or not. Here are some of the guidelines that are followed in lab specimen collection.

All of the containers should be free from particles of dusts and all. It should be cleaned in other words. Not unless a person is willing to go to treatments that might deteriorate her already better condition. This is because these particles may show the procreation of bacteria in a certain collection caused by dirty containers.

Also, there is this crucial need that very container that shall be used are new and cleaned. Not the reused one because the chance is high that the proper analysis will not be done. That might lead to the false speculation of the certain specimen of someone.

The lid is needed to be secured. It should also be leak resistant to avoid the possibilities of leakage. Which is not appropriate especially when a person had a hard time to pee and he had to do it all again because the contents got spilled due to a leak.

To avoid the breakage, avoid using the glass. Not only that they are quite expensive. But also, they could break easily. Plastics are needed for this one because they could easily be thrown out after use. And also, there is the impossibility that lies there that it is not going to break, never in a million light years.

Other substances should not also leach onto the vial. Chances are, they are also going to affect the whole examination that will led to another false result. Again, they had to be free from any substances so that the optimal level of the testing will take place.

The containers that are used always vary on the type of the automated system that is suitable for them. To avoid any kind of delays, or worse, the false analysis, the right transport tube shall be used in the right automated system. This is because they are designed to work with each other to make the most efficient result possible.

The labels should be printed on the surface of the vials. It is needed so to avoid the replacement of someones urine that will yet again lead to another false speculation. That is going to affect the result gravely so they have to be labeled with the information of the person.

Indeed, there are many things that are considered before the lab specimen collection takes place. They had these guidelines in which each one of them has to follow. Otherwise, another mistake will occur that is going to affect both of the examiner and the patient in a grave way. To avoid the possibilities of mistakes, guidelines are needed. This will keep them away from the negative consequences caused by not following guidelines
