Tips On Obtaining Loose Diamonds

By Dennis Artling

There are quite a few people who have not a clue about buying loose diamonds but would very much like to do so. If these people are genuine in their intent, then they need to know some smart tips for doing so. The paragraphs below describe a few of those tips.

To begin with, check with any friends of yours that have bought such items previously. They should be in a good position to recommend specific retailers to you. In addition, they can also tell you who not to do business with under any circumstances.

You have to be realistic about what you are able to afford as well. Almost everyone would love to own the most expensive items, but only a few would be able to actually afford such items. So look at what the best is that you can afford to buy, and you should do well.

Try not to be too orthodox in adherence to the four C's which comprise item selection criteria (these being clarity, carat, color and cut). If you are too orthodox, you run the risk of missing out on some decent items. So do be flexible, while being mindful of the four C's nonetheless.

Finally, clarify that you know what you are getting. Make sure that all you have been told about the item checks out, that the price is fair in terms of market value, and that any insurance needed is valid. If all of these questions are answered satisfactorily, then you may proceed with this purchase without qualm.

To summarise, tips on purchasing loose diamonds are based on a number of issues. These are the views of your friends, the budget you are working with, an eye for appraising items flexibly and a proper evaluation of the purchase. The previous paragraphs present tips that address all of these issues.

  1. You are absolutely correct. Getting referrals from friends is one way of knowing good retailers. You could also find out if that store provides International delivery so that you won't have a problem if you want to send loose diamonds to your friends abroad.
