water tube boiler industrial application

By Hung Rosazza

A water tube boiler is defined as a heat processing container, in which water circulates through its tubes which are heated externally by fire. We can differentiate these Water Tube Steam Generator Boilers from shell type boilers because in this design water runs inside the tubes and heated outside by the fire. For the same energy consumption a level of much higher pressure can be produced with a smaller tube diameter.

In the process of fuel burning in the furnace, water gets hot in steam generating tubes; resultantly a hot gas is produced. The smaller boilers have to rely upon additional separate tubes in the furnace, in order to produce steam; on the other hand, the large utility boilers are designed with steam generating water-filled tubes.

Proceeding in process, hot water rousingly approaches to the steam drum. The filled up steam is drawn off the steam drum top at this place. Most commonly steam enters again in furnace by using a super heater; due to this act it becomes superheated. The reason behind this newly formed steam is that it gets heat above boiling point when given at a pressure. This superheated steam is a dry gas that is indispensible for the use of driving turbines. As water droplets can be highly harmful for the turbine blades, so this gas without any vapor is used in turbines.

At the next step, cool water runs back to steam drum with the help of down comer tubes of steam drum, which has a large size. Here, due to the pre-heated water supply, all the saturated steam increases the boiler's ability to heat up the air blown into the furnace. They are the steam generating units of thermal power station with this distinct quality.

There are many steam boilers which operate on the natural water circulation principles. The boilers are used to create steam for process plant application. Steam boilers, in which more and hotter steams are produced, are significantly used in factories and ships. As far as their application is concerned, they are largely found in the central-station power plants and public utilities, many other large units are applied in paper mills, steel mills, chemical plants, and oil refineries. The newly designed Steam boilers are highly beneficial because there is a very rare chance of a catastrophic failure, as was the risk with older designed boilers.

The huge sized boilers usually produce up to a few million pounds per hour. These boilers are specifically manufactured with the capability of producing steam with extreme temperatures at the level up to 5,000 psig. Small sized water tube boilers are easily adjustable in single formed package unit. Comparatively the large sized boilers, which are too difficult to be preparing in package form units, they are easy to manufacture. The huge boilers are a perfect fit to be assembled to the work place.

The raw material inspection is very important issue in steam boiler inspection process. The ASME code mandated that the steam boiler raw material to be inspected before commencement of the construction work. The steam boiler vendor is responsible to do all inspection and tests that are mandated in the boiler code. The vendor must do all inspection and test based submitted inspection and test plan. The inspection and test plan is submitted by purchaser or it's authorized engineering companies. The steam boiler pre-shipment inspection must be done if the buyer has opened a letter of credit in its bank. The steam boiler pre-shipment inspection is necessary for fund transfer between buyer and steam boiler vendor. In this case pre-shipment inspection company will do quality, quantity, packing and marking control. The loading inspection must be done when it is necessary by regulatory requirement or buyer request.

It is recommended that the water boiler purchasers use the services of third party inspection companies for making vendor inspection and as well as the pre-shipment inspection. By this action they will reduce the risk of receiving of non-conforming water tube boiler in their plant.
