How You Should Select And Use The Pocket Gophers Traps

By Michael Rogers

You may be walking in your backyard and realize various sections with mounds. Such mounds are caused by the presence of gophers in your yard. They are as a result of the rodents digging underground tunnels for shelter. When you wish to get rid of them, you can consider going for the Pocket Gophers Traps. There is a variety of information you are likely to get on the internet. However, below are some techniques you need to take into consideration.

There is a variety of traps in the market; you can get a wire trap, box trap, and black holes. A wire trap is also referred to as Macabee. It is designed in such a way that it can squeeze the rodents with their prongs. This is among the methods commonly used since it is more efficient as compared to other techniques.

The secret of using these traps is to place them properly at the opening of the tunnel. You should have enough knowledge about these rodents and how you can identify the soil mounds dug recently giving a possibility of having an animal in the tunnel. Catching them will provide you with some relief as you will have eliminated them from the yard.

You need to focus all your energy towards identifying the fresh mounds in your garden. Do not waste your time and energy moving around all tunnels around the yard as some might be empty. Spot those who are newly dug as they will have wet dirt and pushed over grass. Now, after identifying the locations, get prepared with your hunting tools.

You can dig a hole around the section with the mound. This will give an idea of the shape and direction of each tunnel. You realize that some gophers will not have one tunnel but will dig two or three as a way of confusing predators. Put more focus on identifying the right tunnel, which is being dug.

Now you can lay your trap in the exit of that tunnel. Make sure you have covered it with soil. These animals are known to have a poor vision but ensure the trap is not identified. In case they walk over it, they will instantly get caught. Additionally, tire the trap against a stake to avoid it from being pulled away.

If the gopher accidentally walks over the trap, it gets trapped, which leads to its death. You should determine where to bury it. When the mounds are far from your house, use the tunnels and mounds to bury them. You can as well dig a hole in the yard and bury them. You will slowly get rid of these rodents.

However, there is a need for you to remain patient. This depends on the activities of the gopher and can take you minutes or hours before they are caught. Check each trap from time to time to ensure they are in the right position. You need to have made sure that they are correctly set before leaving.
