Information Regarding C Arm X Ray

By Elizabeth Cooper

A C-arm is a medical piece of equipment that is used in various surgical procedures in clinics and hospitals. The c arm x ray device has an arm that is shaped like a letter C from which its name derives. The C shaped armed is used to connect the x-ray detector and the x-ray source to one another. Thus, the x-rays are generated in one place and then they travel through the arm to the detector where they are detected.

Originally, the initial versions had a lower efficiency level and were larger in size. On the other hand, the device is currently more efficient and also occupies a smaller space. The software that is being used in modern equipment has played a big part in promoting the level of efficiency. In addition, technology has advanced in this field in the past number of years.

Fixed systems are more liked than mobile c-arms in hybrid operating rooms. The reason is that they do not need time for cooling and one can use them for longer periods. Normally, fixed systems use liquid cooling systems to avoid issues to do with overheating. Liquid cooling has the advantage. The benefit is that the system can be used for longer periods before they are allowed to cool down.

Modern systems also use flat-panel technology that allows for production of images that are free from distortion. The images also have more than 16, 000 different shades of gray. The resolution is over 1500 by 1500 pixels. Since the device does not get affected by magnetic field, the images are not distorted by magnetic fields. That means that the device can be placed near magnetic resonance (MR) scanners without experiencing any kind of problem.

Flat-panel technology helps the machine to produce images of a larger field of view. Images created by the flat-panel detector usually have up to 60 percent more information compared to conventional image intensifiers. For this reason, surgeons and other physicians are able to get work with more details, improving the accuracy of the surgical procedures.

C-arms have patient tables included in their design for x-ray imaging. The tables are designed to allow the proper fitting of the imaging device around the body of a patient. Other tables are created in ways that permit a bit of movement for better positioning and placement of the equipment around the patient. With this, images that are captured are better.

Images can be taken from a wide range of angles by c-arms. This allows for more details to be recorded, which in turn allows for more accuracy during procedure. Tables may be made translucent in some cases to prevent any kind of interference with the process of imaging. The use of carbon fiber has also grown a lot in this application because the material is lightweight and strong at the same time.

In conclusion, accessibility to services provide by the c-arm X ray machine has become very easy nowadays. This has become the case because technology is improving which allows the cost of producing imaging machines to lower. They have also become easy to use and maintain at the same time.
