Finding Bargains With Online Discount Fabrics

By Donald Harris

When starting a new sewing or quilt project, you get excited to go to the fabric store and search for the perfect piece among all the different ones available in the store. Handling and viewing all the many types and colors of fabric give a simple joy that is an important part of the project. You may think that online discount fabrics can't offer the same, but in fact they can.

There is excitement when you anticipate a special box of fabrics coming in the mail. It can be as exciting as shopping the store. Online shopping can be very addicting. An array of beautiful colors and patterns can encourage your creativity. You may even get an idea to use some of your old stash to match your new ones.

It is much cheaper to buy from these online sources. They have very little overhead, so can sell them at less cost. Many times the less cost is offset somewhat by shipping costs. But, many offer low- or no-cost shipping. Some that don't generally offer free shipping will have special promotions where shipping is prepaid. This really makes them less expensive.

This method of shopping is more convenient for a number of reasons. One is that you can shop in your pajamas. There is no need to get dressed and prepare for a shopping trip. Just open up your computer and go. There are search terms at most of the websites that make shopping so much easier. Your are able to search by price per yard, type of fabric, usage, color and other terms you may be interested in buying.

Sometimes items are hard to find and you are forced to go from store to store looking for exactly what you want and at a good price. On the computer, you can quickly click to get from site to site to find what you want. You can even save more time by searching and making a list of several sites to check out.

You should take some precautions before shopping online. You should be sure the site will send samples before requiring you to buy. They may charge a small amount for these, at least a postage amount. Also, be sure all costs are listed, such as shipping and handling, and make sure they designate how much is actual postage.

Be sure to check their return policy inn case your purchase is not as you expect. If it is not allowed, make sure they state that on their site and be prepared to get stuck with what you ordered. In case the fabric is costly and they do not allow returns, order a minimum of the fabric as a sample and be sure it is as you think it should be.

One of the most important things to consider is that they state on their site that they do not store card numbers and personal information. Further, be sure they post their customer service phone number and email addresses, so you can contact them if you are unsatisfied with something or don't receive your order as expected.
