Useful Facts About Aluminum Louvers

By Mary Campbell

Louver can be defined as a certain of window that is designed uniquely to allow the admission of light and air into a room while blocking rain and direct sunlight. The horizontal slats on these windows are usually made of various materials including metal and glass. One of the metals that is commonly used are is aluminium. There are several factors that make aluminium metal to be more preferable for making these products as compared to other metals.

The ability to admit light and air into enclosed spaces while keeping out direct sunlight and rain is achieved through special positioning of the horizontal slats. The slats on aluminum louvers are placed at a specific angle so as to achieve this effect. Increasing the angle usually leads to admission of direct sunlight and rain into the enclosed space. On the other hand, reducing the angle may result into totally blocking air and light.

Modern louvers are more effective compared to those used in the old day. This is due to extensive research and technological advancements. Lately, one can decide to adjust the angle of horizontal slats to fit their personal preferences. This enables an individual to create a special effect in the room. It is important to note that not all windows come with adjustable horizontal slats. Most windows come with permanently fixed slats.

The main material used in making these products used to be wood. Wood was the most preferable because it was cheap, easily accessible and used to be important in keeping the room warm. The technology used at that time did not permit the use of other materials like metal and glass. As more people become familiar with the product today, aluminium metal seems to be dominating this market and becoming the mostly used metal.

Existing statistics point to the fact that many people prefer louvered windows to traditional ones. One of the reasons for this is that with ordinary windows, the homeowner must always be aware of the changing climate and close them when it becomes windy, starts raining or the air becomes too dusty. With louvered windows all this is taken care of since water cannot get into the house when it rains.

Secondly, windows that are louvered with aluminium metal also present strength. Aluminium metal is usually one of the softest metals in existence. However, despite being a soft metal, it offers a lot of strength against intruders and thieves. Thus, installing louvered windows improves security and safety in the house.

Another advantage that aluminium metal presents is that it is cheaper in comparison to many other metals. The price of aluminium metal is usually lower globally compared to that of iron, steel, lead, and copper among other metals. As such, it is cheaper to have windows installed with these products than other metals.

Lastly, aluminum as a metal offers a lot of beauty. Aluminium metal is usually shiny, which allows it to increase the aesthetic value of a home. Besides being aesthetically appealing, aluminium retains its beauty as long as it still in use. This is because it does not get affected by the elements like iron and steel do when they rust.
