What One Can Learn From Millennial Leadership Training

By Shirley Campbell

It is quite common for people of the previous generation to have the notion that millennials are generally mentally weaker than their predecessors and there is actually some truth to it. However, millennials also do possess oodles of potential of harnessed properly, especially in a time where technology is so advanced. If people of this generation would go through proper millennial leadership, it is possible to curb the weaknesses and harness the strengths.

Now, before going into this, one must first understand how the minds of the millennials work. One of the major weaknesses of the generation Y is that they are a bit spoiled simply because during the time of their parents, the world economy was already improving from the depression. Because of this, millennials are actually spoiled by the previous generations because generation X parents had the desire to give as much as they could to make up for what they did not have.

However, the strength of this generation is that since they are living in a time where they do not need to worry too much about survival, they are more innovative and can come up with ideas to further improve life. Coupled with technology, the generation Y babies can propel the world to the future. The key of these programs are to curb the weaknesses and to propel the strengths.

The very first thing that these programs would tackle would be mindset because mindset is what drives action. First off, these programs would first aim to fine tune the minds of the young potential leaders so that they can become mentally strong enough to be able to survive no matter what the situation. If one wants to be a leader, then he must first learn to be a survivor.

When one has developed the strong mindset already, then the next step is to develop the skills. First, one should learn organization skills or to simply how to make a good system for the people underneath him to work within. If everything is organized and systematic, the goal or the vision of the leader will also be realized faster because everything moves like clockwork.

Now, the bulk of the training would go into learning proper people skills. Take note that leadership is not just about bossing people to do this or do that. It is about knowing where to put people in which role and how to motivate them to do their work well.

With the innovative mindset and the tech savviness that the millennials naturally have, it would be easy to train them to not only create a creative working system for the work, but also to come up with a system for motivating and leading the people. One will also learn the importance of creating an emotional connection with the people in order for them to work well.

Millennials do have a good potential if they are trained. However, these people need the right amount of training to do so. As long as they are trained, they will not succumb to their weaknesses.
