A Look At The Replacement Turntable Stylus

By Gary Mitchell

Turntables are of different prices because they differ in features. They are revolving plates that hold phonographic record when being played. The needle is made up of a diamond tip that originates from the cartilage and moves around the record groove. Replacement turntable stylus that is a new one enhances high-quality sound production. And an old and a worn out needle is likely to damage the record and also produce a sound of low quality.

Having a brand new stylus will increase the quality of sound produced. The difference in types of needles present means difference in the quality of sound produced. Elliptical one have the best sound production compared to conical and spherical ones.

When selecting one to buy, choose that has the smallest tip. This is because it fits the groove accurately. The target should be to check a needle with more contact with groove and at the same time has less wear and tear on the grooves. This increases the sound quality and at the same time increasing the life of the record.

The quality of sound production is proportional to the cost. Those that produce a sound of high quality are more expensive compared to others. Excellent care is very essential in determining the longevity of the system. It should be protected from dust and small debris otherwise, it will be damaged. In the case of dust particles the stylus is cleaned by use of special cleaning brushes. During replacement of turntables stylus, the following are fundamental. Force gauge, tweezers, a replacement cartilage, steady hands, screw driver, a pair of needle-nose pliers-and the replacement needle.

Before starting the process of replacement, check whether the cartilage is removable from its carrier and then remove it. Confirm the make and the model of components you are dealing with and check for those you want to replace with. Try to remove the stylus with the hand by a soft pull but if not possible, use needle-nose-pliers.

Use the screw-driver to remove the old cartilage from its carrier and insert the new one. During the process of installing it, remove the needle. On fitting, the cartilage then rewires the system. The needle is the inserted at this stage. Then its carrier is reinstalled. The markings on the gauge of the turntable are then used to align the needle. Tighten the nuts securing the cartilage to its carrier.

Then set the best tracking force to enhance efficiency. The dial is adjusted to most appropriate tracking force for those having an inbuilt scale for tracking force. The arm height is set in such a way that it is parallel to the surface of the platter on play. By this time, the system should be playing high-quality sound than before during the replacement.

Consider various factors when replacing a turntable. Compare the cost of one to the amount you have. Make your mind whether to buy a belt drive or a direct drive turntable. Consider whether to have either a manual or an automatic one. The make of cartilage that is commonly available in electronic shops is the best to buy for easy replacement.
