Want A Position As A Mermaid?

By George Dodson

There are many interesting creatures in the oceans. Of these creatures some are myth, some real. Many a tale of Neptune, Davy Jones Locker and mermaids are told over a pint of ale.

A half fish, half human creature of the ocean is a mermaid. With her beauty, she lures unsuspecting victims under the sea. To philosophers she was a perfect mixture of the sea and earth. The mermaid represented the mystery of the sea to the Greeks. What did become of those unfortunate sailors?

All this is just Greek mythology but people do perform as mermaids. These women with tails are still beautiful.

How do you go about getting a job as a mermaid?

Of course love of water is one big requirement. Instead of feet and fins you have to swim with a tail, something very different. Learn how to present yourself by working as a model. A lot of the time you won't be swimming in the sea. As you will be entertaining others a lot of the time, how you create a mystic presence, will be important. Other important considerations are how a camera works and different shooting angles.

Learn about the ocean. Understand the seas by talking to the likes of divers who are always in the water. See how their approach to the ocean works. Find one or two that are underwater photographers and get some shots to form a portfolio. In order to impress employers you will need a good portfolio.

Perfect your mermaid skills by performing at kids parties. Kids are not particular on all the details of your performance so you can practice it without a lot of detailed criticism.

Have a go at creating a tail of your own.

One person who was a model and became a mermaid is Hannah Frasier. She suggests that you create your own tail to match your body instead of copying other designs. For you it needs to feel natural. In addition, certain shapes create more power than others do, and they glide through the water better. You should be creative and make it your own, says Hannah.

If you follow these tips, you too could be in a fabulous picture seen swimming with a whale, or thrilling audiences at one of the famous water parks in the United States or elsewhere.
