After you have earned your BSN and have at least worked for one year as an RN, you are ready to start working on your Master degree in nursing, or MSN. These are highly skilled positions that require serious consideration.

The anesthesia program provides extensive training in several areas including the pharmacology that relates to anesthesia. These studies include physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, physics, chemistry, and pathophysiology. During the clinical training you will learn various techniques and procedures of anesthesia necessary for obstetrics and surgery.

The programs typically take twenty four to thirty six months to complete. When you complete the Masters program in nursing you will be able to take the certification examination. Passing this national exam certifies that you are qualified to carry out the duties of a CRNA. It is important to find the program that is accredited and highly recommended.

Becoming a certified RN anesthetist takes dedication and hard work. Obtaining the advanced degree can be very demanding. Since it is beneficial to continue working in your current position it can sometimes be difficult balancing education time with employment hours. It is important that you clearly evaluate the options available to you to help you reach your goal.

These professionals often earn as much or more than doctors. The significant difference in pay is due to the sensitive nature of the care being provided. These skilled professionals are responsible for administering the proper anesthesia without harming the patient. The care the CRNA provides to surgical patients starts before they enter the operating room and does not end until after they are seen in recovery.
