Ways For Drilling Noise Control

By Lucia Weeks

The worst neighborhood to live in is a noise one. Take a case, settling with your family near a construction site. There is to much light going around, earth shaking vibrations, heavy traffic turning and bangs the size of lightning strikes. Such conditions are unbearable and for a fact, few will desire to dwell in such places. This is essentially why we have drilling noise control measures to address these problems.

The nature of drilling in general uses an array of profound and sophisticated machinery. These machinery are the sole generator of the noise. These include trucks, mud pumps, air and fluid systems, metal works, pipe handling, draw work and metal work, air cooling systems, top drives, fork lifts and shale shakers. Such noise could extends from days to months. The worst could even happen in the summer when we want nothing but peace.

The easiest of the ways to reduce commotion is to get the right equipment to use for the purpose of drilling. Technology has advanced in a great way helped in the reducing of this squeaking. This equipment in away have been modified to mitigate the commotion problem. They include, sound insulation containers fitted in the hydraulics, draw works, generators and air compressors. Roughneck iron fittings, also do help in the pipe handling.

The next alternative is in the techniques used in the whole process is the new rig. This is an advanced single rig that is hydraulically operated. It stands 33 meters above and is completely covered in sound proof material including the revolving and motors that drive the pinions. The hydraulic power jacks inside the rig have been installed with heavy vibration dampening that reduces vibrations.

How you transport your goods is key for efficiency. You need to minimize the emitted commotion as much as possible. Moving in and out at night is better because of less traffic. Trucks do cause a lot of noise. There are ways to reduce their noise and include, insulations and mechanical adjustments. Insulations fitted in the compressors and steel gratings. Switching off reverse beeps and using flash lights instead of too much hooting.

Not all measures used do effectively work. No matter what a drill will in some way make some commotion. For that reason, sound walls can be used to cover up for this loophole. These walls should be insulated to prevent them from being filled with gas and strong enough to withstand vibrations. They also should stand 2 meters tall and run 10 meters wide from the base.

Talking to your crew also does play a part. They need to taught on how to reduce the noise pollution. They are the sole users of the equipment provided and in a way they should know how to minimize noise. Set peak limits to guide you on when to act in order to address commotion pollution. Avoid shouting and whistling, running empty shakers and tactically reschedule the noisy activities to daytime.

Noise pollution is avoidable. There is an array of options to choose. You budget and the needs you desire should guide you through choosing the method to use.
