Make Entrees Taste Better With Chicken Seasoning Rub

By Gary Bailey

Although outdoor grilling is a popular pastime for many, not everyone loves the process. First, you have to determine whether the weather is appropriate. While some will fire up the grill in the rain, the experience is not quite the same. Then there is the preparation, which may include adding smoke chips for additional flavor. For those who do not have that kind of time on their hands, chicken seasoning rub can bring some of the same smoky taste to poultry.

This is another area that separates a quality grilling experience from one that may be rushed or have a step missing. The flavor of the food never lies. Some people feel that drowning their beef, chicken, or pork in a barbecue sauce is the remedy but there are some ways to get that outdoor taste.

There are also many flavors from which to choose. To get that outdoor grill taste, hickory or smoke flavors are a good choice. What many people do not realize is that poultry flavors are not limited to the grill, as rubs can be used to season baked chicken, turkey, or duck.

These rubs are also great for kids who are just learning how to cook. When they are first starting, they may not have the patience for measuring and getting the hang of food handling may take some time. However, when kids or newbie home chefs have a shortcut, they can focus more on preparing side dishes or clean up.

There are also other flavors like garlic herb, teriyaki, and spicy. While the majority of these are fairly mild, when going with a spicy or buffalo flavor, it may help to give it a taste before adding more spice. Unlike the premixed seasonings, these are not finely ground spices that sit on a supermarket shelf for months.

Since the goal here is even coverage, a couple of good shakes is all that is needed. Once all of the pieces have been covered, place them accordingly so that texture will be crisp and cook evenly. Because the oven does not take a lot of time to get hot, the cooking time should be minimal but it may help to consult manufacturer directions if unsure. However, most people find they can have a complete meal in less than thirty minutes.

Chicken flavors are normally versatile, which means it can be used on the seafood or shellfish. For those not experienced in the kitchen, the best types of fish for rub seasonings are dense in texture. Cod, salmon, and swordfish are great examples and, unlike shellfish or those with a lot of bones, these are very easy to cook on the stovetop. Most fish filet and steak cuts can also be baked for a few minutes. However, instead of covering the fish in its entirety, covering one flat side should do the trick.

Using a rub is also a great alternative for those who are watching what they eat. The caloric count is minimal and most are fairly low in sodium and sugar. Most people who choose marinated foods over those that have been fried find losing excess weight much easier. This change can also stave off some chronic ailments like elevated cholesterol levels.
