Types Of Medical Waste Jail Management System

By Shirley Burns

When anything is no longer of use it must be disposed of or removed from the space it is occupying safely and in a permanent manner which would not cause problems in the future. It is very crucial to make and follow a Jail Management System because of all garbage created by humans that of medical background carries a lot of danger with it.

Sorting out waste according to the WHO standards within the medical services. Different color bins or plastics are available for specific waste. Colour coding is the easiest way of separating stuff, being easy to remember and also gives the persons involved a sense of responsibility. Red, black, blue, yellow or white collecting bins. Removal of substances by sluicing using automated sluice machines which directly connected to the waste disposal pipes reduces contamination.

Medical fields produce different types of waste; hence the frequency of removal is not the same. Some are removed on a daily basis or several times a day. Yet some would be collected weekly. This also determined by the level of risk carried by the type of waste. Infectious disease hospital units, blood and flesh waste from pathology labs and surgery or veterinary services need urgent removal.

Although incineration has been made safe in some states it has been banned completely. Substitutes for this includes chemical treatment plants where waste is destroyed by a series of processing. Where ever management of waste is done, proper protecting clothing must be worn to prevent cross infection and contamination.

Then there is an infectious waste, which includes used bandages, cotton swabs, surgical swabs, and most blood or human fluid soiled materials. The soiled linen and other reusable things must be cleaned, disinfected first then sent to the laundry. Sluice machines use recommended chemicals and detergents, Protective clothing to be worn at all times and disposed of in the correct bins.

Choosing or provided with municipal waste removal is cheaper as their costs are already covered by the national budget. This may be a service available for government or public medical institutions. At a low standard subscription, the garbage is collected. They would make their extra income from recycling some of the waste.

Handling of infected waste is also important, within the medical environment, not everyone would know where to put the specific waste. That is why all garbage collection containers big or small must be clearly marked with hazardous insignia shown clearly. Only trained and regulated personnel are permitted to remove waste, not because they are immune to the dangers involved but they have the proper equipment and skills to do so.

Recycling waste is not only saving the environment, but also a great way to fundraise. A contract with the recycling company to collect the well sorted recyclable material. The collecting bins can be provided by the company to sort out paper, plastic, glass, and metal accordingly. Medical institutions depending on the size produce some of the largest recyclable materials per year.
