A Discussion On The Significance Of Screw Conveyors In Your Production Facility

By Michael Morris

The need to produce and deliver with efficiency and dispatch is at an all time high these days. To answer to this demand, there are various mechanisms and devices available that aim to streamline and simplify work. Among these are Screw Conveyors.

This apparatus contains a helical screw contraption inside its tube that is used to transfer or move materials. The materials may be dry or not, and free flowing or not. The conveyor is used to assist in automated or semi automated manufacturing procedures.

This equipment is used in a wide range of industries and applications. Examples are in petroleum mining, pharmaceuticals, construction, food processing, and agriculture. The machine may be used in conveying cement, saw dust, wood chips, chemicals, paper pulp, salt, sugar, flour, cereals, coffee grains, cotton seeds, feeds, and many more.

The mechanism of this apparatus is adopted from the Archimedes screw, which was invented way back two hundred years BCE. A rotating blade inside the cylinder, when positioned precisely in the mathematical sense, can move substances such as water in a specific direction. It enables a repetitive cycle by letting in new material into the tube, and the process can go on and on.

Conveyors are normally produced from carbon or stainless steel. Aluminum and other resistant alloys are also recommended. It is best coated with thermoplastic resin since it is highly resistant to high temperatures and corrosion. Especially if used as a container for food, non contamination by metals and other chemicals is a primary consideration. The parts of this apparatus are the bearing seat, screw blade, shaft, hanger bearing, casing, and driven device.

Conveyors offer sundry advantages. They greatly streamline the operations of your site. They are also cost effective and inexpensive to purchase and maintain. They can also be customized as per the customers specifications. For example, they can be reconfigured or made portable, or else added with supplemental attachments like discharge hoses.

The conveyor comes in four types. There is the Horizontal Conveyor, which is the most widely used. Inclined Conveyors are tilted at an acute angle. Because of its angle, conveying efficiency is reduced and the horsepower requirement is increased. The Shaftless Conveyor is utilized for highly moist materials since its surface is smooth and non clogging. Vertical ones, on the other hand, is used to transport semi fluid substances.

The conveyors diameter, trough loading, and speed will ultimately be the determining factors of its capacity. There are also other considerations to keep in mind, like the application, the load volume, the frequency and extremity of use. You must also do a material analysis, such as on the viscosity, size, abrasiveness, and moisture content. Also take into account the performance, power, duty cycle, and longevity of the equipment. Preferably, the must be able to function even with heavy duty applications in a demanding environment.

Conveyors may be the biggest contributors or the biggest drawbacks in your business operations. After all, it has certain features and properties that need to be taken into account. It all depends on choosing the right kind of conveyor.
