All About Chicken Seasoning Rub

By Anthony Campbell

If you like chicken and want to impart great flavor to it, there are a few ways to do so. A chicken seasoning rub is one way to make it extra flavorful. A rub is different from a marinade, in that it is dry and it is rubbed onto the meat. Different flavor combinations give the poultry a totally different taste. It's a good idea to play around with different seasonings to find the flavor that you enjoy. Packets that are already put together can also be found at most grocery stores. Simply open the packet and massage it into the poultry.

Whether you are using home made or store made, the seasonings should be applied in advance. You want to give them between 20 minutes and a couple of hours to really get the flavor into the poultry. Massage it in well, get it under the skin if there is in for best results.

If you want to be in control of your food and what goes into it, make it up yourself. This is perfect for those who are a bit pickier with their flavors or those who want to avoid certain things, like salt, for example. Many premade options have a lot of salt included in the list of ingredients.

We know that many people like some spice to their chicken and this rub is perfect for you. This rub uses cayenne pepper, paprika, onion and garlic, the powdered type since this is a dry rub, and chili powder. You'll love the spice, use more for extra spice and less if you just want a smaller amount.

Those who would like a sweeter taste, can add some brown sugar to the mix, and take out the cayenne pepper. If you like it a little sweet and a little spicy, leave the cayenne in. You can't go wrong with these recipes, they are all about what you like.

This delicious and flavorful option is somewhere in the middle, not too spicy and not too sweet. It's ingredients include cumin, smoky paprika, dry mustard, garlic and onion powder, black pepper and dry mustard. It's simply delicious.

It's a great idea to have some of these made up in advance. Keep them in air tight containers in your pantry, then when you need them, they are ready.

While each of the above are great with poultry, they can also be used on other meats such as, roasts, steaks, and ribs. They impart a unique taste to every day cuts of meat. They liven up a meal. It's fun to experiment with different flavor profiles to find the ones that you like best. Get the family involved in helping to come up with different tastes. It's fun, and a great introduction to cooking for children.
