How Timber Harvesting PA Is Done

By Sharon Moore

Falling of trees for the purpose of obtaining timber and fuel should be done responsibly. The global climate change has been facilitated by deforestation in both natural and planted forests. Most governments are now strict on people cutting down trees and such permits have been minimized for companies that not only harvest trees, but have an initiative of replanting the bare forests. The following article discuses steps taken during timber harvesting PA process.

Timber harvesting starts with acquisition of a harvesting permit, tree felling, bucking, yarding, hauling, and processing which is finally done at the factory. To do this, experienced felling and bucking experts must be employed to ensure that there are no damages or injuries that take place. Lifting machines, hoes, moving trucks, and updated processing machines must be acquired prior to the business start.

The first step towards acquiring timber if tree felling. However, it requires high skills because a wrong move could endanger people around you or animals and close to the vicinity. Trees that are fell on the wrong direction might cause other trees to fall closing down roads, rivers and other features found on the forest. Therefore, whoever is handling the felling process should be experienced and skilled enough.

Once the trees are fell they have to be cut into different sizes. These will be determined by the company specifications which might be done by calculating the size of the trailer carrying the logs or what your customer wants. Any wrong bucking means that the company is losing some value from the tree. Therefore, the experts handling this section should be accurate in cutting the trees according to the specified measurements.

Trucks cannot safely move from one point to another collecting each tree from where it is cut. A mechanism where the logs are assembled together for a collection point should be established. The point should be far away from breeding grounds used by fish or close to rivers to avoid polluting the water. Moreover, cranes should be used in hauling the logs to the collection point.

Additionally, logging is a soil compacting process, since the trucks involved will make the ground so hard for anything to survive there. Ensure that a single cause is set where all the trucks shall follow when coming in and out of the forest. Moreover, logging should not take place close to fish bearing streams because water pollution might affect their survival.

Transporting the logs from their yard in the forest to the company where timber is processed is difficult. You need trucks that can withstand movement in muddy and rough roads. If the distance from the forest to the factory is close, consider hiring vehicles than purchasing yours. As such, you will use the capital in buying more raw materials.

To get the best timber for export and local purchases, you need to install modern automatic machines that will cut and process the wood into the required materials. Clients look at how the timber has been cut before buying it. Therefore, find out the best machines and skilled professionals for better results.
