Information On Golf Course Construction

By Melissa Howard

Golf is a game that many people around the world enjoy and regularly engage in to play or to watch others play. The game is often associated with the upper class and prestige. Owing to the lucrative nature of this game, there are many companies that have come up that are engaged in golf course construction. This article will present some information on the process of constructing golf courses and how to pick a company for this task.

Constructing a course starts by identifying the perfect place to make it. When considering various spots, one should ensure that the spot is made of sandy soil with plenty of sunlight. Sandy soils are ideal because they make drainage easier. The spot should have breezes to promote the health of turf.

One should start excavating the land after they have identified the perfect spot for the field. When excavating, the land should be tilled up to 20 inches of depth. Sod that may be existing in the place must be removed to avoid having to deal with weeds later. However, if the sod does not have any weeds in it, it may be left to remain.

The next step involves designing how the golf course will look like. This can be a very difficult task, because it is very involving and can be very challenging. One of the best ways to solve this problem is by using computer aided design. Computers can help to design the final appearance of the field easily. The design achieved using the computer can then be transferred to the ground.

After the design tasks have been completed, the next step should be to install drainage systems. Since the land slopes uniformly from the center outwards, drainage systems should follow suit. Drainage system should be comprised of 8-inc pipes that are make into the field to direct water. Drainage should be installed while making plans regarding irrigation.

The thriving of turf is highly reliant on provision of adequate amounts of time on a timely and uniform basis. The use of sprinkler systems is the best approach to this task. Garden hoses are not effective because they supply water unevenly and need a lot of time to complete a large piece of land. Pipes used in sprinkler systems should be buried below the ground to make the landscape slightly and free of obstacles.

The process of constructing a golf course is time-consuming, expensive, labor-intensive, and requires a lot of heavy equipment and machinery. That is why there are companies that specialize in doing this job. The job is best left to professional companies with specialty in the building of courses. Before hiring a firm, one must make sure that it is licensed and has engaged in several contracts in the past.

One of the best ways of knowing if a service company offers good service is by checking out a site on which it worked before. If ones finds the job satisfactory, they can then go ahead to contract it. However, if the work is not satisfactory, one may check out the other options available.
