Locating A Replacement Turntable Stylus

A lot of music lovers will own music on vinyl discs and will use a record deck to play them on. Modern music that is released is now usually sold in a digital format and on CD and sometimes needles for a record player can be difficult to locate. If you need to find a replacement turntable stylus you will have to find a reputable supplier that can sell you a compatible one.

The stylus is a very important component as it translates the grooves in the vinyl into the audible sound that is heard by the listener. Old or badly worn needles will not produce good quality sound and they could cause damage to the surface of your records. There various types of needle and it is important that your replacement is going to be compatible with your equipment.

A great place to start your search is a professional audio dealer that can be found on many high streets. These stores will have very knowledgeable staff that can assist you in locating a stylus for your turntable. If they do not have your particular needle in stock they will usually be able to order for one from the manufacturer.

The internet is a useful place to purchase new styluses and there are many reliable online suppliers. You will have to spend some time browsing pages of stock and it is a good idea to have the serial number or manufacturer of your existing needle. You will usually pay less when buying online as a web based retailer will have much lower overheads than other retailers and they can sell for lower prices.

If one of the web retailers or a dealer in your local area is unable to help you it is worth trying an internet auction site. Most of the sites will have a list of suitable needles with full descriptions and color photos which are waiting for a bid or the best offer. If you have questions about an item you can email the seller and ask for more information before placing a bid.

If your turntable is an old model, you may not locate a suitable replacement needle, and there are some other options. You can try a nearly new store to see if they have old turntables for sale which you can strip for spare parts. It is also worth speaking to an engineer to see if they can make some modifications to your record deck so that it can be fitted with a modern needle.

You can also contact the manufacturers who made your turntable and many of them will supply you with a replacement needle. If your particular turntable is no longer being manufactured they may still be able to help if they have old stock. If they are unable to find a suitable needle they may recommend one of their authorized dealers where you may be able to buy one.

A stylus is a fragile item and it is important to protect it properly. When you buy a needle it should be kept in its original box until you plan to fit it. Always hang on to your purchase receipt which will enable you to return or exchange a needle when necessary.
